Here I am! Back momentarily from my disappearance. I wish I could promise FOR REAL THIS TIME stability and continuity in blogging, but let's face it, I'm just not there right now. I may not have my act together in this sector, but I'm proud to say that I have been doing some very adultish things the last month! No, not flossing regularly or dry cleaning my clothes, but I think you'll still be impressed.
Number one: Taxes. Turned in the paperwork. ON TIME! No rushing around frantically collecting documents at the last minute in this household.
Two: Life Insurance. Signed up. There's a price on my head. If Roman gets accepted to Harvard in the next 20 years and I *die mysteriously* please make sure he gets straight A's.
Three: Roth IRA. Who has two thumbs and is looking towards the future? This girl! I'm going to retire with enough money that I can send my grand kids $5 every holiday and I never have to worry about running out of bedazzled jackets. I can also take out the principle balance to help pay for things like college (hmm....maybe I'll live to see Roman graduate after all). Btw, did you see me use the words "principle balance?" Darn adulthood!
Four: New car. I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but YES I DO! I WANT TO TOOT IT FROM OUR NEW CAR!!! Troy and I had our first full car shopping experience involving multiple dealerships, stressful decisions, and a very rewarding purchase. We got a stellar deal on a Subaru WITH heated seats, and now I feel like I'm on vacation every time I drive.
Five: Signed up for basic real estate appraisal courses. I'm plotting the next chapter of my life and it looks like it follows my father's footsteps into the world of subject houses, comps, and USPAP. It's literally the one thing I thought I'd never do. Just another fun feature of adulthood - you learn that life really does take you down some wacky paths.
Six: Refinanced our house. Nothing says "you're grown up now" more than having to lock in interest rates, worry about your debt to income ratio, and hope that you can drop your mortgage insurance. It's a heck of a lot of fun, kids! Let's all grow up so we can sign docs at a title company! Then afterwards we can open a HELOC (that's a home equity line of credit, for all you youngsters) and work on home improvements! Boy oh boy!!
I know, I know, all you Strangers reading are now super jealous of my flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants lifestyle. I didn't even mention the fact that I went to the dentist and got an oil change for our other car! What can I say? It's non-stop over here. Ha! For reals, I know how painfully boring it all sounds, but it's very productive, and it sure feels good to get things done!
On another note, this Friday makes Roman 9 months old. I'm hoping to get a chance this weekend to do a dedicated post on all the wonderful progress he's made the last few months. He is quite the character! But now I have a shower to catch.
Perfect Stranger, what kind of things have you done lately that make you feel particularly adulty?
