Whoo doggy! So many good happenings the past 2 weeks, I can't keep up! We've had family bbq's, baby-stuff shopping sprees, and my mom's house sold. I'm at once excited and stressed that this month is over half way done. Just a couple more weeks until we have our son. And also... OMG JUST A COUPLE MORE WEEKS UNTIL WE HAVE OUR SON!! GAAHH!!!
But this post isn't about the future. It's about the recent past, wherein we have had some excellent experiences.
First and foremost on my Happy Times List, was our beloved Fancy Dinner birthday celebration with Troy's Dad and Step-mom (hereafter referred to as Dave and Sue, respectively :) ). All of our birthdays are in the summer (Sue's at the end of June, I'm in July, and Troy and Dave are both at the end of August), and for the past 6 years Dave and Sue have treated us to a really nice dinner in honor of everyone's birthdays. For Troy and I it involves all of our favorite things - getting dressed up, eating exquisitely prepared meals, drinking cocktails that are the perfect blend of delicious and boozy (I had to skip that part this year *sad face*), and spending time with two people we love and admire! It's a tradition I look forward to every year with the same eagerness as a major holiday.
This year was an all time high - we ate at the top of a sky scraper! We dined in full-fanciness at the Portland City Grill, which is located on the 30th floor of the building and overlooks the city. It was a beautiful day for it too, the sky was clear, the sun was at it's golden hour (Troy says that's when the sun creates perfect highlights/shadows in the landscape) , and we got a great view of both Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Hood. We dined, talked and enjoyed another memorable evening! I love that even though Troy and I are technically Responsible Adults we have people in our life that will give us solid, parental advice on all things cars/house/baby/everything related!
Another MEOWvelous [I wish I could take credit for that...] recent happening was receiving my cat lady box!!! YAY!!!!! It was a sorta-belated b-day gift from Randi (I say sorta because I knew it was coming, it just wasn't there on my actual birthday, which totally works for me because I like to extend my birthday to the brink of what is socially acceptable). She spoils me! I am so grateful to have a friend that brings so much laughter, positivity, AND cat lady boxes into my life!!
The items in the box were totally rad. A tee-shirt (where I blatantly stole my cat pun from), some cat eyed sunglasses (that Troy does not prefer, but I wore them to fancy dinner anyway), and a completely awesome cat scarf. I love hot weather, but am excited for the next 70 degree day where wearing a scarf is more appropriate! Bonus: There were two cat nip toys in the box and my cats WENT TOTALLY INSANE!! Thanks to Little Head hijacking the box, it was a solid 8 minutes before I could even see what was in it!
The last happy experience I wanted to share was Paint Nite with Troy, Eric, Randi, and her parents Penny and Grae. Perfect Stranger, do you feel like you are a little bit creative but are seething with self doubt? Try Paint Nite! Seriously. They make it so fun and easy-ish, and at the very least I learn something every time (even if my paintings aren't always exactly frame worthy). It's also a great activity to do with your friends and you can all loudly complain about clouds together. I had such a good time!
At this point, I have to do a little husband bragging. Along with being handsome, charming, and smart, my husband is crazy creative. I painstakingly paint on clouds for an hour without ever coming close to what is in my head [see: giant pink sky blobs above]. He spends 45 minutes laughing at dirty jokes with Eric, 12 minutes making funny faces, 3 minutes actually painting and...his clouds are perfect. He's just so good! People in the class were asking him for advice and taking pictures of his canvas. One of the (many) nice things about being married is getting to take pride in your SO's accomplishments. I was very proud that night despite having to add a shark fin and a volcano to make my own picture at all interesting.
All in all, my August has been pretty flippin' fantastic so far. Next up is Troy's birthday (an escape room experience I hope is share-worthy!) and then hopefully we get an early surprise baby (a girl can dream, right?!).
So Stranger, what was your last fun experience? Tell me about it in the comments! Bonus points for suggestions on activities to do for date nights with friends!
